Ha ha! It happens to me too. One of my characters, who was supposed to be a stereotypical gothic heroine, just refused to live. She insisted on dying in the first chapter, or even before the story began. She might not even get included at all, depending on how much backstory I can fit in.
Alternatively, the character that I made up solely to serve as the corpse on the road, MHK, now refuses to die! He's turned into my Dark Lord bad guy. XD
Oh, and FMC's daughter fell in love with the younger version of Dark Lord, MHK, and then she fell in love with C's brother, the other antagonist!
Huh? Hwuh-huh? What the what? xD

RJA: XD I was about to say...
Agent: Yikes. Dontcha hate that? I mean, I love development, but its always just "BAM. Hi. This is how its gonna work, writer-monkey. Okay?" Like right now I can't decide whether or not to randomly make my MC's brother gay (although its probably not because (1) it hardly matters at this point and it would be strange to throw it in there now, and (2) I apparently have an obsession with gay characters... Not true though! I've only had, like, two, and their sexual orientation was important to the plot! So meh! (I also evidently have a thing for slight molestation in my books, which I will admit to. Again, its a part of the plot, so MEH. But this is off topic.)

Haha Agent, for a second there I thought it was your MC that insisted on dying in the first chapter, or even before the story began. I was totally picturing that... ^_^ "This story is about the life of Ann. Unfortunately Ann died two weeks ago leaving me with no book to write about it. -The End-"
OMG OMG OMG I just finished a book for the first time in my life! *jumps up and down*
Mo, I like gay characters in my book as well. Having quite some gay friends, makes it kind of hard to imagine life without them. There just there you know. But I don't always make them 'there-there' or use them in the story, if you know what I mean. And if it contributes to your plot; do it. If it doesn't but you think it's fun or makes you feel better about the character; do it as well. Who cares ^_^ -at least that's my opinion and hey, I just finished a first draft of a complete book!
*edit* And now I've editted my book! OMG anyone feels like proof reading it?

Mo - Totally get that! It's quite ridiculous when you've planned a careful hook, and your character completely subverts it! As for whether he's gay, include it if it works, and is relevant. If not, not a big deal. Just treat it as you would any other orientation, like if his partner happens to be in the room, mention it or something. :-D
A few of my characters are gay, or bisexual, but I don't even know if I ever mentioned it, because it either never really figures in my plot, or they're minor characters. I have a feeling that either MMC, or the secondary villain, Dearhart, is bi.
RJA - Awesome! High five! Party! ^^ Already finished, and edited already, within 2 minutes? That was fast! What's your story about?

Lol other boyfriend? XD
Mo, yeah, I make random connections too, and at the most random moments. That's partly why my notes are such a mess. I write things down everywhere! =) I just know things about characters. I know one of my FMCs tends to wear plain dresses that are rather too large for her. My Time Agent character is blonde, but she likes to cut her hair short, and dye it pink all the time. There's just something about the shower that inspires me.

XD Last shower I cheated on my novel and began planning my Camp NaNo novel... But I meant all these random details that actually connect. Like how I added in the part about Sam punching mirror and hurting her hand before I realized all the connections it had to other parts of my novel: traveling or communicating through mirrors (major points). Or the three drunks in her life: her father (who causes her to snap and travel through the mirror, inciting action), Kanji (who I added for drama), and then Jamas (who sends her to jail, climax). And all kinds of symbolism and such... ><

LOL I'm not the only one inspired in the shower? It's the soft fall of water drops, isn't it? I should write in the rain more often... I used to be inspired during thunderstorms but we don't get many here. I miss loud, beautiful thunderstorms.
I have a MC that decided he needed to die. I waited him out, about a week, hoping he would change his mind. He didn't. So he's not in the novel anymore, idiot boy. FC had to find someone else to torture (yeah, not really. Couldn't hurt a fly, that one).
